Establishing Professional Contacts

I must admit when I first began it was a little tense trying to decide which country I wanted to learn about and to wonder if I would get a response from the emails I've sent.  As of now, I'm waiting for pending responses from Romania, Turkey, and Egypt.  I used the UNICEF, http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/index.html,  as my primary source.  For the second part of this assignment, I decided to learn more about the National Black Child Development Institute.  I subscribed to their newsletter from the following link,  http://nbcdi.org/support/sign-up-for-nbcdi-newsletters/ and you can find their home page at, http://nbcdi.org/.
I took interest in NBCDI in a previous course, but never found the time to explore it so this assignment provided the perfect opportunity for me to do so and it will help me professionally since I work mostly with African American children.

  1. Shonda- you did a smart thing in sending to 3 different countries, I may go back and send out a 3rd request just to be safe. I almost chose Romania because my neighbor does work for an orphange there and she is always telling me stories of children there, but I really interested in the Philippines and celtic history so I went with Ireland for my other choice. I am still waiting as well but look forward to some response. I hope the blog page I added helps me keep up with news in Head Start, I never thought to check into this before but I am glad I did it, even if it doesn't help with school, I am sure I will learn things to help with work.

  2. Miss Shonda, I am glad you understood this exercise because I am still a little lost. I turned to you blog page to see if I can get some guidance, I did, so thanks for that. I will do what I thought I was suppose to do. The National Black Child Development Institute stood out to me as well as I went down the list of options we were given. I hope that as you learn more and share your learning in this class we can grow as professionals.

  3. Hi Shonda, I also chose The National Black Development Institute as well. I have never heard of it and I'm really looking forward to going to the website and getting more information. I sent e-mail to early childhood educators in Haiti and Armenia. It will be interesting to see if we get any responses back. I think I'm also going to do what Elizabeth said and send out one more.
